Pop Smoke’s Alleged Killers Charged With Murder
Four people have been charged with murder in the killing of Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke, as Rap-Up reports. Criminal charges against two adults and two teenagers have been announced by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Nineteen-year-old Corey Walker and Keandre Rodgers, 18, were both charged with murder. However, the murder charges come with the special circumstance allegation that the killing occurred during the commission of a robbery and a burglary.
Gang and gun allegations are also included in the criminal complaint. Those who are charged could face the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole if they’re convicted on the allegation that the murder occurred during a burglary. However, prosecutors have yet to decide whether they’ll seek capital punishment.
In addition to Walker and Rodgers being charged, two male juveniles ages 15 and 17 were both charged with one count of murder and robbery in juvenile court. Due to the fact that the males are still minors, their names were withheld.
The Los Angeles Police Department made five arrests last week in connection with Pop Smoke’s home invasion murder that took place on Feb. 19. The 20-year-old rapper was fatally shot during a robbery in a rented Hollywood Hills home, and the four defendants are accused of the incident.
According to law enforcement, the assailants didn’t know Pop Smoke personally and may have discovered his location via social media.
Pop Smoke recently became the first rapper to posthumously debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with his debut album, Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon, moving 251,000 equivalent album units on Monday (July 13.)
