The Detroit Zoo Has a New, Adorable Baby Wallaby
The Detroit Zoo has a new, adorable baby wallaby.
The baby wallaby was born in October of last year and came out of mom’s pouch for the first time this week.
The baby and mother reside on the Zoo’s two-acre Australian Outback Adventure with two other wallabies and 13 red kangaroos.
Eloise is the mother’s name, and the baby is her first joey.

A baby wallaby is now visible at the Detroit Zoo following its birth this past October. This is Eloise’s first joey and the first baby wallaby born at the Zoo since 2010.

“Joeys don’t start getting fur until about six months. Now that there is a fine layer of fur, the joey is starting to venture out,” Elizabeth Arbaugh, curator of mammals for the Detroit Zoological Society (DZS),” said in a statement.
The baby wallaby doesn’t have an official name yet. Its sex will be determined when the baby gets a little older and mainly out of the pouch.
