Juneteenth is right around the corner and there are events happening around the city. The Downtown Detroit Partnership has announced a three-day event that they’re having. It’s going to start over at Campus Martius with live music tomorrow, poetry, and then there’s going to be a movie night that starts at 7:00 PM showing Wakanda Forever. They do say to bring a lawn chair or blanket or something to sit on for the movies. Friday at Cadillac Square from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM it’s Market Fridays with the Black Business Showcase. There will be live music, food trucks, vendors, and more. They’re going to have the same type of deal on Saturday at Beacon Park. That’s going to start at 8:00 PM with a nighttime market there, and they’re going to have all that same stuff going on. Make sure you check it out. They’re all free to attend unless you’re going to spend with the vendors and the food trucks.

No one could have predicted what went down on Twitter over the past couple of days. Anita Baker was GOING IN on Babyface and his fans, who she was calling “Kenny’s Crazies”. How did this start? Well, they’re on tour together and back in May, his set was cut short because there was a two-hour delay. Everyone on Twitter was kind of blaming Anita for it. Babyface’s fans were pretty mad about it. So, she took to Twitter in response and said that she was upset that he was breaching his contract as an opening act by staying on stage past the set time. Now, saying “opening act” set Babyface’s fans off even more because they’re supposedly equals on this tour together. One Tweet said something along the lines of, ‘He has all these Grammys and you have a bad attitude’. Anita Tweeted, “I gave you $20,000 worth of production equipment. You should be happy and you’re still complaining’. She Tweeted that ‘Kenny’s Crazies are online bullies. Babyface, please call off your fans. I have only been kind and supportive of you as the special guest support on my tour”. There were tons of back-and-forth Tweets between Anita and Babyface fans. I’ll say this, I worked with Babyface before and I felt it was an honor to have him on my stage. I mean, he had one little segment where he was doing songs that he’s written for other people and he could have done a three-hour show with just those songs. He was great to work with. Now, Anita? I mean, I love Anita Baker’s music. I listen to her Greatest Hits every year on my birthday. I serenade myself with a glass of wine, I do the whole thing. I listen to her all the time. But I did not want to work with her. Because if you work in the industry, you’ve just heard stories. I won’t get into all of that, but I just didn’t want it to ruin my experience with her. Like they say, don’t meet your heroes.
