Detroit’s Mosaic Youth Theatre Scores $500K Lewis Prize for Music
Congratulations are in order for the Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit, who recently scored a $500,000 grant via the Lewis Prize For Music, a philanthropic music arts organization that helps cultivate creative youth development.
Detroit media arts collective and label We Are Culture Creators also picked up a $25,000 grant via Lewis Prize.
The Lewis Prize for Music was founded in 2018 by philanthropist Daniel R. Lewis. The mission of the prize is to “partner with leaders who create positive change by investing in young people through music. We believe young people with access to high-quality music learning, performance and creation opportunities will mature into thriving individuals.”
Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit was founded in 1992 by professional actor and director Rick Sperling, according to the organization’s website.
Sperling started Mosaic after budget cuts resulted in many Detroit schools cutting arts programs. Today, Mosaic’s award-winning programs impact thousands of Detroit’s youth every year.
