Today In History: LL Cool J Drops “Bigger And Deffer” And I Fell In Love!
33 years ago today (May 29th) LL Cool J released his third album titled Bigger And Deffer. This album was perfect to me. I loved every track. LL’s energy on here is incredible.
The album was led by LL’s hard-hitting single, I’m Bad.
I Need Love caught fans off guard as Hip-Hop’s first true love song. The classic is still requested 30 years later.
In 1998, the album was selected as one of The Source’s 100 Best Rap Albums, although it received mixed reviews from other critics. The cover photo was taken in front of Andrew Jackson High School in Queens (which LL Cool J attended before dropping out in the 10th or 11th grade), and the back cover was shot in his grandmother’s basement (his residence at the time).

I can remember it being the summer of 87’ laying on my bedroom floor with my Walkman headphones on listening to the cassette tape. The specific song was “I’m Bad”….
Do you remember the first rap song you memorized? Mine was: I Need Love – LL Cool J….don’t judge 13 year old me. I was spitting every word, swore I was a rapper.
What is your favorite LL Cool J song?
