Study: Flushing Urinals Can Spread COVID-19
BERLIN, GERMANY - NOVEMBER 24: Urinals hang on a wall in a newly-inaugurated gender-free toilet at the office building of the city's Senate Administration for Work, Integration and Women (Senatsverwaltung fuer Arbeit, Integration und Frauen) on November 24, 2015 in Berlin, Germany. The administration has converted four of its previously separate men's and women's toilets to gender-free toilets in a sign of respect towards Berlin's trans-gender community, who otherwise often face potentially uncomfortable decisions or confrontations in the use of public toilets. I seriously can’t imagine not flushing the toilet after using the restroom. In fact, one of my pet peeves is going to the restroom and there’s a mess in the toilet. Yuck! However you should think before you flush, you might just be helping to spread COVID-19.
A new study out of China found that flushing public urinals can potentially spread coronavirus, thanks to an “alarming upward flow” that can send water droplets two feet in the air in just a few seconds. UGH. This virus is just WAY too contagious.
Researchers say those droplets can end up infecting the flusher – or the next person in line. They recommend always wearing a mask in public restrooms.
I will say that I’m certainly wearing my mask next time I use a public restroom because I always take it off usually since I’m not around someone else. Better to be safe than sorry!
