Metro Detroit Heat Advisory and Storm Warnings
As mentioned in today’s Shannon’s Scoop, Metro Detroit heat advisory and storm warnings are in effect.
A Metro Detroit heat advisory and storm warnings have been issued for multiple counties, including Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne. The advisory will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., covering most of our listening area.
With high temperatures expected in the low 90s and high humidity making it feel like 102 degrees, there is an increased risk of heat-related illnesses. It is advised that residents seek cooling centers or stay indoors, especially if they have access to air conditioning.
In addition to the heat, there is a possibility of storms until 10 a.m., some of which may be severe with damaging wind gusts and hail. School closings have been impacted as well. Detroit Public Schools will continue with a three-hour early release, and Southfield Public Schools have canceled classes altogether today, August 27th due to the extreme heat.
