Their criteria for their rankings were weighted and the and included; Google Trends interest, pizza restaurants per 100,ooo people and affordability of pizza. Based on those factors Detroit was ranked first in America. Here's what they had to say:
Detroit is the best pizza city in the U.S. The Motor City boasts the most independent pizza restaurants per capita (6 per 100,000 residents) out of any city on our list. Detroit ranks No. 1 in "pizza passion" — in other words, locals are searching Google for an extra large variety of pizza styles.
I did some research and found some of the top pizza places in Detroit (I've only eaten at one of these place so this is not ranked).
Buddy’s Pizza
Buddy's is one of Detroit's most well-liked pizza restaurants is Buddy's. It's been around since 1946, and has been offering square pizzas made in the Detroit manner. Their pizzas are distinguished by their crispy, caramelized cheese crust.
Supino Pizzeria
Supino's pizzas are made in the true Neapolitan style . Fresh ingredients are used , and cooked to perfection in a wood-fired oven. The menu features a selection of traditional toppings in addition to some unique selections, like the Cauliflower & Bacon pizza.
Green Lantern Pizzeria
Green Lantern Pizzeria has been family-run and serving Detroit for more than 30 years. Deep-dish pizza is their specialty. A very filling lunch is provided by the thick crust, which is crispy on the exterior and tender on the inside.
Loui's Pizza
Another well-known pizza spot in Detroit is Loui's. Numerous toppings are available, ranging from traditional pepperoni to less conventional choices like shrimp and beef. They provide a selection of crusts, including whole wheat and gluten-free options.
Cloverleaf Bar & Restaurant
Cloverleaf Bar & Restaurant is an institution in the Detroit region, and serves up pizza, sandwiches, and other traditional American fare. They provide both thin-crust and deep-dish pizza, both of which are produced with fresh ingredients. They also have pizzas that are gluten-free and vegetarian are also available.
Shield's Pizza
Shield's Pizza is another family-owned pizza place that has been serving the Detroit area for more than 60 years. They offer a variety of toppings and crusts, including gluten-free and whole wheat options.
