On June 15th a stretch of Randolph street in Detroit’s theater district will be renamed “Michael Jackson Avenue” according to Stephen Brady, chief of staff for Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones.

The announcement was made on Thursday, May 17th during a press conference for the Detroit Music Weekend. The festival will feature the surviving members of The Jacksons – Tito, Marlon, Jackie and Jermaine.

A city ordinance prohibits the naming of a street after a group or organization so Michael Jackson Avenue was a compromise that Brady says was good for everyone.

Should there be a street in every major city named after Michael Jackson, much like MLK?
