WATCH: Puppy In Viral Video Rescued From The Jaws Of Alligator Joins County Sheriff As A Deputy Dog
Remember the heart-stopping video of the puppy that was rescued from an alligator by its owner? Well, Gunner the puppy is now a Deputy Dog!
Florida’s Lee County Sheriff’s Office welcomed its newest furry friend to the Deputy Dogs team.
Gunner, a four-month-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, was rescued from the jaws of an almost 4-foot alligator in late October when his heroic owner Richard Wilbanks jumped into a pond near his Estero home after the gator dragged the dog underwater.
“It was like a missile,” Richard Wilbanks recalled to The News-Press, part of the USA TODAY Network, in a Nov. 23 story. “We were only about 3 feet away from it, but it struck like a snake. It had Gunner in a vise grip and I just rushed in.”
Richard submerged his entire arm underwater to bring his small dog to the surface, with the 4 foot alligator still latched on.
Gunner amazingly walked away with only a puncture wound and some water in his lungs, requiring the puppy to stay at the hospital for a few days to recover.
The courageous canine was sworn in as the Safety and Security Officer for Deputy Dogs on Tuesday by Sheriff Carmine Marceno.
“Ok, this is a big day. You’re gonna be a detective now ok?” Sheriff Marceno said while swearing Gunner in. Check out the adorable video below:
