Alec Baldwin Fires Prop Gun on Film Set, Results in 1 Dead, 1 Wounded
Alec Baldwin was involved in an accident on the set of the film Rust where he fired a prop gun resulting in the death of Halyna Hutchins, the film’s cinematographer, and wounding Joel Souza, the film’s director.
Per reports from multiple outlets — including The Hollywood Reporter and Variety — Hutchins was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital and was later pronounced dead. Souza, meanwhile, was taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center and is currently in critical condition.
Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Juan Ríos said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, “According to investigators it appears that the scene being filmed involved the use of a prop firearm when it was discharged. Detectives are investigating how and what type of projectile was discharged.”
Variety reached out to Baldwin’s reps for comment, but they have not responded yet.
