Detroit’s Spirit Plaza Could Be Renamed ‘Black Lives Matter Plaza’
You’ve seen that the area in front of the white house was renamed ‘Black Lives Matter Plaza’ in DC, right? Well A Detroit landmark could be next….
In the wake of the George Floyd movement, it has been reported that the Detroit city council is expected to introduce a resolution to rename the Spirit Plaza at Woodward and Jefferson as the Black Lives Matter plaza.
What do you think about it?
Some people are not really on board with this idea. I think it’s a step in the right direction renaming Spirit Plaza to Black Lives matter plaza. However, people are saying it’s a superficial gesture….it’s nice and all…but the real gesture would be to defund the police. Honestly, I don’t think that’s going to happen here in Detroit. Although, it’s good to see some change towards equality for all people.
Are you for the plaza name change? Against it, or not bothered?? Comment below and check out a video of the history of the iconic Spirit of Detroit statue and its sculptor, Marshall M. Fredericks.
