McDonald’s Temporarily Closing 850 Restaurants In Russia
Add McDonald’s to the list of companies who are taking a step back from doing business with Russia.
The fast food giant will reportedly be closing 850 of its stores in Russia, another hit to the Russian economy in light of the invasion of Ukraine overseen by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
108 stores will be closed in Ukraine, but McDonald’s will continue to pay those employees.
In an open letter to employees, CEO Chris Kempckinski wrote: “our values mean we cannot ignore the needless human suffering unfolding in Ukraine“. He says the company will continue to pay its roughly 62,000 Russian employees.
