Bad Bunny became the forty-fifth artist to serve as host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live last night. During the show, Bunny did a skit based on 8 Mile, inspired by Eminem's 2002 movie.
The skit, featured; Kenan Thompson and Mikey Day. Day's character, Walter Whiteboy (an homage to Breaking Bad), was very obviously supposed to represent Rabbit, Eminem's character from the original movie and featured a rap battle between Day and Bad Bunny. Bunny's character was named, El Fuego in a rap battle.
Thompson was the host of the battle in the skit, even announced it as happening in Detroit. In the skit, Fuego was the returning champion, while Whiteboy was the nervous challenger, similar to Rabbit in 8 Mile. Before the battle, Walter Whiteboy's crew tells him to clown himself on things Fuego would clown him on before Fuego could.
This leads to Day's character doing a self deprecating freestyle where he clowns; his fake Jordan's, living with his mother and step-dad, his first kiss being with his first cousin and more. Fuego, who didn't know any of this starts to sympathize with Walter, who doesn't realize this while putting all of his dirty laundry out there.
At the end of the battle, Fuego doesn't say anything but still wins the battle after Walter Whiteboy puts all his business out in the street and his crew dips out on him, you can check out the Bad Bunny 8 Mile rap battle skit below:
If you didn't hear, Bad Bunny just announced his 'Most Wanted Tour,' which will be coming to Little Caesar's Arena on April 6, 2024. Get more info on that show here.
MTV VMAs: Nicki Minaj, Bad Bunny + Other Hot Performances
Last night, the MTV VMAs took place in Newark, New Jersey, and as always, it featured performances by some of the hottest names in music today, as well as a couple of legends. Snoop Dogg and Eminem performed their collaboration, "From The D To The LBC"; Video Vanguard Award winner Nicki Minaj performed a medley of her hits and the Global Icon Award Winner Red Hot Chili Peppers performed their recent single "Black Summer" and their classic "Can't Stop." Country star Kane Brown became the first solo male country star to perform at the VMAs, and the show also included the best of hip-hop, R&B, K-pop and beyond. Here are our five favorite performances.
BLACKPINK - "Pink Venom"
“This next group has not only dominated K-pop, they’ve taken over the world,” said Latto, who introduced them. She told the audience that it was not only the girl group’s first time ever at the VMAs but also the act’s first ever U.S. award show performance. It surely won't be their last.
Bad Bunny - "Titi Me Pregunto"
Bad Bunny performed live from his headlining concert across the river at New York's Yankee Stadium. He got a lot of buzz for kissing one of his male backing singers during his performance.
Nicki Minaj's medley
Minaj got a solid ten minutes to perform, which is usually the case for Video Vanguard winners. She reminded the audience of just how many hits she's had over the course of her 10+ year career.
Lizzo - "About Damn Time/2 Be Loved"
Lizzo's performance of two of the most feel-good songs of the year was accompanied by some eye-popping visuals.
Anitta - "Envolver"
"VMAs! Did you think I wasn’t going to shake my ass tonight?" Anitta asked, midway through her performance. If anyone actually thought that, she certainly corrected them.
Maneskin - "Supermodel"
Speaking of butts, Maneskin singer Damiano David bared his in his Prince-like butt-less chaps. MTV shot a good portion of the performance from a distances.
