Looking for the best burger in Downtown Detroit? Well, look no further because we've got you covered! But first, lets chat about what makes a good burger, a good burger.

What Makes a Good Burger, a Good Burger

The temperature is heating up and we all know that one of the very first things we do to embrace it is to bring out the grill! There's no denying the mouthwatering aroma of a plump, juicy burger sizzling on the grill. And the sound of the juices sizzling on the charcoal is simply irresistible. Then you top it off with your favorite cheese as it slowly melts over the burger, and finally, you load it up with your preferred toppings. What are your go-to choices? Bacon? Onions? Jalapenos? Pickles? As for me, I go for a bun grilled with butter, a well-seasoned turkey patty, crumbled blue cheese, and my toppings of choice are mushrooms, lettuce, red onion, mayo, and mustard. Well, now I'm getting seriously hungry just thinking about it! How about you?

May is National Hamburger Month

Enjoying a tasty burger is always a good idea, but did you know May is officially National Hamburger Month? If you're wondering how to celebrate this delicious day, why not mix things up by trying a new burger recipe? Delish has compiled a list of their top 62 burger recipes to experiment with. One that stands out to me is the "Greek Stuffed Turkey Burger" - sounds like a must-try!

The Best Burger in Downtown Detroit

Of course, if you want to kick back and enjoy your meal, you can feast on the best burger in Downtown Detroit. Now, I asked people around the building where their favorite spot was. Albert Dale from engineering said Checkers Bar has the best burger in Downtown Detroit, not just for the burger but also for the cool arcade & live music. I was checking out their menu, and they have several burgers for you. And you can swap out the patty for a veggie patty if you don't eat beef. Check them out below.

And, of course, they have a special burger on Paczki Day here in Detroit called "The Paczki Burger," which is just what you'd imagine. A hamburger and the bun is a paczki! They have a few more; you can check them out here.

Online Reviews of Checkers Bar

Now, while I trust our engineer Albert's opinion on burgers, I wanted to check out some reviews on Yelp for you. Here are a few:

Kitty K (Newport, MI) says, "Cool little dive bar with an arcade attached! The Checker Bar is known for its tasty burgers! It's super close to all the sports and downtown happenings. It is very close to Greektown, Campus Martius, Ford Field, and Comerica. Parents bring their kids here. There is an outside patio. Vintage games are upstairs. Great date night or family outing."

Jake D. (Ann Arbor, MI) says, " Great 'dive bar' atmosphere. The food is really good and relatively inexpensive for downtown. It's a good authentic neighborhood bar with excellent drinks and nice bartenders."

Blaise B. (Westland, MI) says, "We came here on New Year's Eve before the event at the Fillmore. We wanted a cheap dinner since the rest of the night was expensive, and this was exactly what we were looking for. The prices are reasonable (difficult to find these days in downtown Detroit!), and everything we ordered was SO good. I plan to return many times when I'm downtown!"

So, if you'd like to snag a bite to eat & have the best burger in Downtown Detroit, you can check them out at 124 Cadillac Square, Detroit, MI. Their hours are:

Sunday-Thursday 11am-1am
Friday-Saturday 11am- 2am

The weather is warming up around here and we all know that one of the very first things we do to welcome it in is to break out the grill! There's no denying the delicious smell of a fat, juicy burger cooking on the grill. Plus the sound of the sizzle from the juices hitting the charcoal are so enticing. Then you add your favorite cheese as it slowly melts across the burger & and finally it's loaded with your favorite toppings. Which are your favorites? Bacon? Onions? Jalapenos? Pickles? For me, I prefer a butter-grilled bun, a well-seasoned turkey patty, blue cheese crumbles, and the toppings have to be mushrooms, lettuce, red onion, mayo, and mustard. Welp, now my imagination has me seriously hungry! How about you?

While there's never a bad time to enjoy a yummy burger, May is officially National Hamburger Month. Maybe you're asking yourself "How do I honor such a glorious day?" Well, you can definitely celebrate by trying a different type of hamburger than you typically order or make. Food & Wine Magazine put out a list of their top 22 burger recipes for you to choose from. My favorite from their list that I would like to try is their "Next-Level Turkey Burgers with Lemon Aioli" recipe.
