I am guessing that you are probably wondering which pizza spot I am talking about when I say that the best pizza in Downtown Detroit is set to reopen. I'm talking about Supino Pizzeria! Now, I know we are serious about pizza here in Detroit, so you may want challenge me on it being the best, but I will explain why I love it so much later. But first, let's talk about the history of this Eastern Market staple, why it closed, and when it's set to reopen.

When i first started going to Supino, it was in their original location in Eastern Market shown in the picture above. That was opened by the owner Dave Mancini in 2008. There was the kitchen, check out counter, and probably 6 tables at most. Most people would order it for carry-out. They then went on to expand the location next door in 2017 which increased the inside seating area ten-fold.

I guess everyone thinks that because you are from Detroit, you must love Detroit-Style pizza. While I have no issue with it at all, I prefer a thin slice of east coast style pizza. And that's exactly what I get when I go to Supino Pizzeria. The pizza is just such great quality. In addition to the pizza, they have great Italian appetizers like Fagioli which is, according to their website, "Sheridan farm braised beans with pickled tomatoes." Plus, you cant forget about dessert. I love their Katies Cannoli. And pssstttt don't tell anyone I told you this, but you can also get carryout wine & drinks! Lovefood.com has even named it the best pizza in Michigan. 

Unfortunately, on April 24, 2023 in a fire that started in an apartment above the location. This caused significant damages from water before the Detroit Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire. It has been closed for repairs since that time.

According to their website, "we are happy to announce that we have reopened take-out at our Eastern Market location as of Tuesday, April 23rd (2024)! We will be announcing a full grand re-opening soon, hopefully in the next month or so, when our dining room has been fully renovated!" I am so happy to hear this. How about you?

Buddy's Pizza is a Detroit institution, and for good reason. The pizzas here are some of the best in the city, with a perfect balance of cheese, sauce, and crust. The Original Detroit-Style pizza is the must-try here, but the deep dish and thin crust pizzas are also excellent. They have multiple locations across Metro Detroit and you can view the list here.

Loui's Pizza is another Detroit classic, and it's definitely worth a visit if you're in town. The pizzas here are thin and crispy, with just the right amount of cheese and sauce. The pepperoni pizza is the most popular choice, but there are plenty of other great options to choose from. Grab a slice at 23141 Dequindre Rd in Hazel Park.

Cloverleaf Pizza is a great spot for those who like their pizza on the thinner side. The crust is nice and crispy, and the toppings are always fresh. The veggie pizza is my personal favorite, but there are plenty of other great options to choose from. They have a ton of locations across Metro Detroit and you can view those here.

Niki's Pizza is another excellent spot for thin crust pizza lovers. The pies here are cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of cheese and sauce. There are plenty of great options to choose from. They are located Downtown at 735 Beaubien Blvd in Detroit. 

Mario's Pizza is yet another great spot for pizza lovers. Grab a slice at 4222 2nd Ave in Detroit.

Now Supino Pizzeria may be my favorite pizza spot ever in Metro Detroit. They expanded just a few years ago and they needed to because it is a very popular spot for pizza. You can check them out in Eastern Market Downtown!

Green Lantern is the self-proclaimed King of Pepperoni! They've been serving the best pizza in the Detroit Metro area since 1955! They have multiple locations across Metro Detroit and you can view the list here

Stop by and grab a slice at this popular pizzeria! They are located at 441 W Canfield St #9 in Detroit! 

Ooh! One of my personal favorites Downriver! They have a sweet sauce and a thick crust and it is so good! Last time i was there they still only took cash as payment so be prepared! But it is worth it. You can visit them on Eureka Road in Southgate!

Located inside The Garden Bowl, Sgt. Pepperoni’s Pizzeria & Deli serves specialty Pizzas, Calzones, Stromboli and late night bites. Check them out on Woodward in Downtown Detroit.
