Detroit Grand Prix Hits Downtown Detroit Streets

Looking for something exciting to do this weekend? As mentioned today in Shannon's Scoop, The Detroit Grand Prix is taking over the streets of downtown Detroit again this year, marking its second year off Belle Isle. The event runs from Friday, May 31st through Sunday, June 2nd, offering a thrilling experience for all ages.

Family-Friendly Friday

If you're planning to take the kids, Friday is the best day to go to get everyone in for free. There's free gate admission and free seating available in grandstands 1 & 9. However, please note that paddock access won't be available.

Detroit Grand Prix Weekend Viewing Options

For the rest of the weekend, there are seven grandstands with reserved seat options, available for either a single day or the entire weekend. Fans can also check out three general admission rooftop viewing areas. Free viewing platforms are located along Jefferson Avenue and Atwater Street, providing great spots to catch the race. Additionally, entry into Hart Plaza and the Woodward Avenue area will be free to the public.

Transportation Tips

Due to numerous street closures in the area, it's recommended to use the Q line and the People Mover for transportation. If you're heading downtown for other activities this weekend, plan ahead to navigate the closed streets.

Free Live Concert

On Saturday, there's more than just racing to enjoy. Head to Cadillac Square for a free live concert on the Entertainment Stage near Campus Martius Park.

My Detroit Grand Prix Experience

Shannon Renee suited up to ride in the pace car at the detroit grand prix

I luckily had the pleasure of working at the Detroit Grand Prix when it was on Belle Isle. I actually had the opportunity to get suited up and ride in the pace car. I do believe we went nearly 120mph. Whew! All I remember is them saying make sure you keep your head back against the padding and I am glad I did. It was so fast!
