The Notorious B.I.G.’s Estate Drops First Single In 17 Years, ‘G.O.A.T.’
Ahead of the Notorious B.I.G.’s 5oth birthday, the estate of the late rapper dropped its first single in 17 years titled “G.O.A.T.”
The acronym “G.O.A.T.” — standing for “Greatest Of All Time” — is a simple way of putting Biggie’s lifelong impact on hip-hop and the music industry as a whole. “G.O.A.T.” features R&B crooner Ty Dolla $ign and Nigerian R&B star Bella Alubo. The track flips the classic Biggie record “I Love the Dough” from Life After Death which featured a verse from Jay-Z, and a hook from Angela Winbush.
“Being on a song with Biggie has been a dream of mine since I was a kid,” Ty Dolla $ign said in a statement per Yahoo News. “The song title is fitting of him…the G.O.A.T. Happy Birthday, Big. We miss you.”
Voletta Wallace, the late rapper’s mother, added, “It’s wonderful to witness my son’s music reimagined for his fans and today’s generation of young men and women to embrace his art. I appreciate the hard work of all involved in bringing together the perfect blend of voices and music to this song, ‘G.O.A.T.’”
The release of “G.O.A.T.” is the start of birthday festivities for the late rapper. Today (May 20) the Empire State Building, in partnership with Bad Boy / Atlantic / Rhino Records, will host a ceremony that will include Biggie’s mother, his children (CJ and Tyanna Wallace), his friend James Lloyd (Lil’ Cease), and rap icon Kimberly Denise Jones (Lil Kim). Other close friends, collaborators, and hip-hop luminaries, that were instrumental in Biggie’s meteoric success and legacy will also be in attendance. More activities honoring the legend will pour into his birthday Saturday (May 21) and the rest of the weekend.
