Doja Cat Says Her Next Album Is Inspired By ’90s German Rave Music’
Doja Cat is already in the studio working on her highly anticipated fourth album.
During a recent interview with CR Fashion Book, the “Kiss Me More” singer shared that she is brainstorming for her next LP, “We just have so many ideas and making those ideas consistent is the challenge right now. I can’t really tell much. I just know there’s a lot going on.”
Doja continued on, sharing how rave culture has inspired her upcoming project. “I’m very into this ’90s German rave kind of vibe right now and it’s really fun,” she shared. “I know that’s kind of the trend at the moment but I loved that stuff as a kid and now that I can express it (obviously, I couldn’t buzz my head and wear a furry bra and have a belly button piercing back then), I’m sort of embracing that. That’s kind of a hint to the album. Rave culture, not house.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Doja shared that she’s currently building a studio in her house but it won’t be done for some time. She’s eager for it to be finished as she prefers to work alone. “My process has always been, I don’t work with people,” she said. “I’m never in the studio with people. I think I’m getting better at being open to that idea but I like things being sent to me and then being in my own place of tranquility and doing it on my own.”
The singer also updated fans on her tonsil prognosis after she had to cancel on The Weeknd's summer tour, “I just got surgery so I haven’t been able to do much but I am on an amazing break. And I got two puppies, so in the meantime, I’m taking care of them. They’re American bullies. And they’re like eleven weeks old. I’m teaching them how to skateboard. And then once I get their shots and whatnot, we’re probably going to go to the beach a lot and go surfing.”
Doja previously hinted that her next project will be “predominately rap.” Back in May, she told Elle magazine, “I haven’t started just because of all the rehearsal and touring. I’ve got a lot going on, but it’s coming up. I have been getting songs and things sent to me… Oh f—, I wish I could tell people! There’s some really cool stuff that I got sent from friends. They’re all working on beats, and I’m giving them notes and they know what I want, so I’m excited.”
This forthcoming project will follow her Grammy-winning 2021 album Planet Her.
