Halle Bailey Releases Debut Solo Single ‘Angel’
Halle Bailey’s solo career has just begun. Bailey released her debut single, “Angel,” on Friday (Aug. 4), the first without her older sister Chlöe Bailey.
“Black girl with the Black girl hair/Took a little sun kiss just to look like this/God-sent, you’re an angel.” Halle croons over a piano arrangement.
The music video shows Halle singing the soulful ballad in a scene with her being among the water and also in other scenes with her background dancers as she performs on steps.
While this song is her official solo debut, Halle lent her voice in Disney’s The Little Mermaid, where she played Ariel. She sang, “For the First Time,” and the iconic “Part of Your World.”
The Little Mermaid actress was “nervous” to venture out on her own without her older sister Chlöe. “I was like, ‘I don’t know if I can do it without her,'” she told Essence, speaking of her live-action role in The Little Mermaid. “I’m so used to her being there and giving me that final push.”

Chloë x Halle released their first EP, Uncovered, in 2013. The EP featured the sister duo singing covers of popular songs from Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga. Four years later, they had their official debut mixtape, The Two of Us. In 2018 they released their debut studio album, The Kids Are Alright. Ungodly Hour, which was released in 2020, is the pair’s latest project. The album was nominated for Best Progressive R&B Album at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, along with their song “Wonder What She Thinks Of Me” for Best Traditional R&B Performance.
However, it has been a major year for Halle. In addition to starring in The Little Mermaid, she is set to use her acting chops once again. Halle will also star in another movie musical later this year: Blitz Bazawule’s The Color Purple, which is scheduled to hit theaters on Christmas Day.
