Doja Cat Says She’s Done Making Pop Music
Doja Cat says that her catchy pop music days have come to an end. The Grammy-winning singer/rapper is working on her new album, Hellmouth. She shocked fans when she announced that her forthcoming project will focus primarily on rap. Doja tweeted, “no more pop.” She followed it up with another tweet writing, “i also agree with everyone who said the majority of my rap verses are mid and corny. I know they are.”
She continued: “I wasnt trying to prove anything I just enjoy making music but I’m getting tired of hearing yall say that i can’t so I will.” A fan wrote back that they hope fans’ comments are not what pressured her to go “full rap.” She replied writing, “pop isnt exciting to me anymore. I dont wanna make it.”
Additionally, Doja shared three song titles for her forthcoming album. She posted a screenshot of the audio files titled, “Wet Vagina,” “Agora Hills” and “Balut.” Doja was in a sharing mood as she continued to tell more tidbits about the album on Twitter. She confirmed that there will be 10 tracks total plus five extras.
This album news follows Doja telling Variety the different direction she plans to go for this next project. “I know that I’ve done a lot of pink and soft things, a lot of pop and glittery sounds,” Doja said. “But for this next era, I’m going in a more masculine direction.”
This forthcoming project will follow her Grammy-winning 2021 album Planet Her where she won her first Grammy for her collab with SZA on “Kiss Me More.”
