What Is Michigan’s Most Popular Sneaker?

The sneaker industry is expected to experience 5.31% growth worldwide this year, reaching $75.77 billion in revenue. Customers remain loyal to their favorite brands of kicks. AOI bot, a website that helps sneakerheads and resellers buy exclusive items online, recently published a report that details Michigan’s most popular sneaker.

The information is broken out by state, providing the top three brand names. “Your surroundings will always play a role in what kind of sneakers you want to wear,” AOI bot explains.

Michigan = Air Max

The Nike Air Max 270 sits atop the list as The Wolverine State’s favorite kicks.  The Air Max model was introduced as a lightweight sneaker built for comfort. The larger air pocket has made it one of the more recognizable styles in the Nike catalog. Currently, the 270 is available in nine different men’s color options and 11 colors in women’s shoes.

Also listed here for Michigan is the Nike Air Max 97. The “97” stands for 1997, the year the shoe was first released by Nike. It was one of the first to feature a full-length air-cushioning. Nike offers the 97 in eight different men’s color schemes and 13 different color options for women. In addition, you can also design your own version of the shoe. Nike describes the Air Max 97 by saying, “This original look is inspired by Japanese bullet trains and water droplets.”

Dior

A high-end brand, Dior, was also named by AOI bot as one of Michigan’s most popular sneakers. Dior shoes are at a higher price point, however. Their options include a walker or a more casual platform sneaker. In fact, if you are looking to spend $10,000 on sneakers you can put the Dior and Nike brands together and purchase their collaboration shoe.

These Michigan Foot Locker Stores Could Be Closing By 2026

As part of a new business plan, Foot Locker is planning to close more than 400 stores in malls across North America. According to Business Insider, executives for the retailer shared a  “Lace Up” business plan that includes the opening of new stand-alone store concepts. Foot Locker told Business Insider that it expects to close as many as 420 by 2026 to focus on its better-performing stores.

The retailer plans to open more than 300 new concept stores by 2026. These would include stores outside of malls. It’s reported that at an investor day event, Foot Locker executives described three new store formats, including a 15,000-square-foot “community” store designed for areas with “strong affinity for sneakers.”

Foot Locker operates more than 3,000 Foot Locker, Kids Footlocker, Champs Sports, WSS and atmos stores worldwide. It has around 1,300 stores in malls in North America. According to the Foot Locker website there are 35 stores in Michigan. The Lansing, Southfield, and Sterling Heights locations are listed but are temporarily closed. The shoe chain expects to have around 2,4000 stores by 2026.
