These Michigan Colleges Are Top National Bargains
The cost of college is always going up and is unattainable for many Americans. Affordable schools are more in demand than ever. And according to Money Magazine, some colleges and universities in Michigan offer a combination of excellent quality and affordability. They published rankings that assess 736 colleges nationwide based on various factors such as tuition fees, financial aid, alumni salaries, and more. The institutions were given ratings from one to five stars, with five stars indicating the best value.
Among the Michigan universities, the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor received a five-star rating as one of America’s Best Colleges, according to the magazine. The ranking states that an in-state student at UM costs $103,600 before considering student and federal aid. The university boasts a high graduation rate of 93%, which is one of the highest among public universities nationally. Additionally, the alumni salaries at UM are above average, as stated in the ranking. The magazine describes the University of Michigan as having a vibrant and proud community due to its excellence in various aspects.
Other Michigan Colleges Ranked
Five other Michigan colleges and universities received a rating of 4.5 out of five stars. This includes three liberal arts colleges. Albion College received high marks for its financial aid and grant structure, which reduces the cost of attendance by approximately $49,000 for the upcoming year.
Hope College in Holland stood out for its 81% graduation rate and its affordability and accessibility, as mentioned in the ranking. The college has pledged to maintain the same tuition rate for students throughout their full-time studies.
Kalamazoo College also offers substantial financial aid and grants that significantly lower the total cost of attendance. Its graduation rate is 86%. While U of M’s rival, Michigan State University and Michigan Technological University also received 4.5-star ratings.
Several other Michigan colleges and universities received a four-star rating, including Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Kettering University in Flint, and Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Madonna University in Livonia, Oakland University in Rochester Hills, University of Detroit Mercy, and University of Michigan-Dearborn.
