Fourth Of July Holiday Weekend Travel Expected To Break Records

Back-ups are certain on I-75 as they prepare for a carpool lane for peak travel times. Closures begin next week.

Upcoming I-75 Closures For Carpool Lane

If your commute includes I-75 in Oakland County, you need to prepare for some closures that are starting next week. They’re working on them to open Michigan’s first carpool lanes. You must have two occupants in the vehicle to travel on the left hand lane during peak travel times, which is a 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. And if you are driving in that lane and you don’t have someone else in the car, tickets are going to be issued to violators. The lane should be open by the end of October and this going to affect segments along a 14 mile stretch between 12 Mile and South Boulevard. There’s such a bottle neck in that area, especially once you pass 696, already and it’s during rush hour. Removing a lane during rush hour seems like it’s just going to make it worse. The carpool lane will be open to everybody outside the peak travel times. Motorcyclists, emergency vehicles, all of that are exempt from needing to have an additional passenger in those lanes.

Jeezy has filed from divorce from Jeannie Mai and she’s made her first televised appearance since that happened. She stopped by the Sherri Shepherd Show and you could tell when you’re watching the video that she’s trying to fight back tears and everything. I am always curious, because these things get leaked once the court papers are filed. The very next day after he filed, it was in the news. So, I’m just curious about whether that’s how she found out? Because she was still posting about him when he released his book, saying she was ‘so thankful to be walking hand in hand with him in life’ and all this stuff. And then like a week later, this comes out. So I’m just wondering if she found out with the rest of us? Wu-Tang Clan Headlines SiriusXM And Pandora's Hip Hop 50th Anniversary Celebration

Wu Tang Clan will be part of a concert that includes De La Soul and Nas. It will air next Wednesday on Amazon Prime.

Wu Tang Clan & More Concert Coming to Amazon Prime

If you’re an East Coast 90s hip-hop fan, which I am, you better get Amazon Prime because Wu Tang, De La Soul, and Nas are live streaming their Seattle show next Wednesday. It’s going to be 8:00 PM Pacific, so that’s 11:00 PM here. They’re going to also be airing Amazon’s Rotation Roundtable hip-hop talk show before that at 10:0 PM Eastern time. So, you got to get Prime Video or Twitch in order to view it, so get that if you’re interested in checking that out.

As we dive into the 50th anniversary of hip hop, we are taking a look at the artists who have made huge impacts on the industry and culture, and today we take a look at De La Soul.

The group from Long Island, New York started up in 1988, and came out of the gate strong.

De La Soul consisted of hip hop legends Kelvin “Psodnous” Mercer, David “Trugoy the Dove” Jolicoeur, and Vincent “Maseo” Mason. Trugoy the Dove sadly died in February of 2023, after battling heart issues for several years. Just days before his death, the group performed on the Grammy Awards, but without him present.

“You were the heart of our group. You brought so much creativity, energy, and passion to our music, and your influence will be felt for years to come,” the group said in an Instagram post after his death. “Your passing is a great loss not only to us, but also to the entire hip-hop community. You were a true artist who used music to inspire and uplift others, and you will be deeply missed by all who knew you.”

The first album from the group, “3 Feet High and Rising,” was a smash success and catapulted them to stardom. They were key members of the Native Tongues Posse, alongside Queen Latifah, A Tribe Called Quest and others.

The band’s second album, “De La Soul is Dead,” is where they cemented their presence as icons of the genre. We profiled that album here.
