Nicki Minaj Criticized Over ‘Rihanna Moment’ Comment To Megan Thee Stallion
Nicki Minaj is in hot water with fans. The Pink Friday 2 rapper is being criticized after saying Megan Thee Stallion “wanted to have a Rihanna moment,” referring to the “Diamonds” singer’s domestic abuse at the hands of then-boyfriend Chris Brown and Megan’s 2020 Tory Lanez shooting that landed the “Say It” rapper ten years behind bars.
In a Twitter Spaces on Wednesday (Jan. 31), Nicki explained how Rihanna presented herself after the Brown incident in 2009 is the opposite of how Megan is handling hers–essentially blaming the “Savage” rapper for how she decides to cope with her own trauma.
“But here’s the thing — Rihanna is just known for being herself,” Nicki said. “You get what you see, you see what you get type of vibe. I’m not talking about anything anyone spoke to me about, I’m saying that’s what we know Rih as. Rihanna never would milk something like this. You could tell she couldn’t wait to get that part of her life — You could tell she couldn’t wait to just try to move on with her life. You understand?”
She continued: “And then people even bashed her for not dragging it out, not milking it, and she was just like, ‘Yo, I was mad young. I just wanna move on with my life now, yo.’ You know why? Because Rihanna knows that she was a superstar with or without controversy. She’s beautiful with or without controversy. She’s loved with or without controversy. I’m sorry — sympathy.”
Fans React To Nicki Minaj’s Comments
Fans did not hesitate to gather Nicki for her comments about Rihanna and Megan Thee Stallion.
“Nicki Minaj really is a despicable human being, but an even worse woman. I’m disgusted but not shocked she’d chalk Meg discussing her abuse up to ‘wanting a Rihanna moment’ because this is a woman who harassed the woman her husband raped, defends her brother molesting a child ETC,” a fan wrote referring to Nicki’s husband Kenneth Petty who served four years in prison for attempted rape in 1994. The rapper’s older brother, Jelani Maraj, was sentenced to 25 years to life for predatory sexual assault in 2020. He was arrested in 2015 and, in 2017, found guilty of raping an 11-year-old girl at a Long Island home.
“She is comparing Rihanna’s abuse to Megan being shot. A black woman telling another how to grieve,” another fan wrote. “Nicki Minaj needs to stop and her clones need to tell her to stop. This 6 year sympathy tour she been on is sad.”
“Nicki Minaj saying ‘Meg just wanted a Rihanna moment’ is a new low for her,” another fan responded. “It’s not a DV contest. These women were violently assaulted, and they are much more than what happened to them. How disgusting of her.”
Why Are Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj Feuding?
The attack on Megan stems from the rapper’s current feud with each other, trading diss tracks at one another. The Houston native released “HISS” on Friday (Jan. 26) which had the line: “These hoes don’t be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan’s Law,” Megan raps on “HISS.” The line was used as a diss towards Nicki Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, who is a registered sex offender.
Nicki followed up with “Big Foot” on Monday (Jan. 29). “Bad bitch she like six foot, I call her Big Foot/ The bitch fell off, I said get up on your good foot,” she rapped.
The bar refers to Tory Lanez shooting Megan in the foot in July 2020. He was sentenced to ten years in prison last August for the crime.
