Tory Lanez Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison For Megan Thee Stallion Shooting
Tory Lanez has been sentenced for 10 years in prison for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. The sentencing was read in a Los Angeles court on Tuesday (Aug. 8), according to TMZ. Tory was facing over 22 years in prison.
In July 2020, Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez were friends at the time of the shooting. They attended Kylie Jenner’s party in Hollywood with Megan’s ex-best friend Kelsey Harris. When they were leaving the party, an argument erupted in the car between Megan and Lanez. Megan testified that it began when she mocked his musical talent and wanted to be removed from the car. Lanez opened fire, hitting her in the foot. Megan initially told police that she walked on broken glass.
Prior to Lanez’s sentencing, his attorneys asked for the rapper to be released on probation and put into a drug placement program. Lanez had an interview with a psychologist in jail last month. According to Law & Crime reporter Meghann Cuniff, the rapper says his childhood, which had violence and abuse, led him to alcohol. The memo also states that he used both alcohol and marijuana to “cope with stress” and the “unresolved traumas from his childhood.” Lanez’s mother died when he was 11 and he was also shot and stabbed as a teenager.
Back in December, Lanez was found guilty by a Los Angeles jury in December for the Megan Thee Stallion 2020 shooting case. He was convicted of three felony charges, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possessing a concealed, unregistered firearm, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
Megan Thee Stallion spoke up about the shooting in her cover story for Elle back in April. “I don’t want to call myself a victim,” she said. “As I reflect on the past three years, I view myself as a survivor because I have truly survived the unimaginable. Not only did I survive being shot by someone I trusted and considered a close friend, but I overcame the public humiliation of having my name and reputation dragged through the mud by that individual for the entire world to see.”
