Pistons & Rick Mahorn Award Detroit Students $100,000 For College Education
Shout out to former Detroit Pistons Bad Boy Rick Mahorn. He has been teaming up with the Detroit Pistons Foundation for almost 20 years now to host the Black History Month Scholarship event where they award Detroit high school students tens of thousands of dollars for the college funding.
This week, 6 DPS students were chosen to share $100,000 in scholarship money to help pay for their college educations. The grand prize winner was King Bethel of the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy. He performed in the Poetry Slam competition, was named the recipient of the Earl Lloyd Award, and received $25,000.
Congratulations to all the recipients and thank you to the Pistons and to Rick Mahorn for doing that for those students. Read more about this story here… https://michiganchronicle.com/detroit-pistons-rick-mahorn-award-detroit-students-100k-at-black-history-month-scholarship-event/
“Stans” Documentary Looks at Eminem Super Fans
It was announced yesterday that Eminem is co-producing a documentary titled “Stans”, which is a reference to his song of the same name which came out in 2000. It’s since been recognized as a term to convey obsessed fans and stuff. And that’s exactly what the documentary is about.
It’s being described as a “revealing, edgy and disarmingly personal journey into the world of super fandom, told through the lens of one of the world’s most iconic and enduring artists, Eminem, and the fans that worship him.”
Paul Rosenberg, who is Eminem’s manager, said that it “will be an opportunity for us to turn the camera around and ask the audience about being his fans – and in some cases, fanatics.” I’ll definitely check it out once it comes out. It’ll be interesting to see.
Tragedy at Kansas City Super Bowl Parade
Changing gears here, I won’t get too much into this, but unfortunately there was a shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade yesterday.
Unfortunately, a radio colleague, who I have never met her personally, Lisa Lopez-Galvin passed away. Her radio station, KKFI, was there celebrating the win. More than 20 others were injured.
It’s such a sad situation. I mean, there were 850 police officers on scene and something still happened. There’s supposedly three people in custody that are suspects and it took two citizens to tackle and detain one of them. Like, what do you do? It’s insane.
The senseless tragedy is going to affect security measures here in Detroit for the NFL Draft. Hopefully they’re prepared and ready to go. You can find more details, videos and more at this link… https://1051thebounce.com/2024/02/14/kansas-city-chiefs-parade-shooting-results-in-multiple-injuries/
