Detroit’s New Easy Pay Program for Water Bills
There’s good news if you’re a Detroit resident struggling with past-due water bills. The city has introduced a new program called Easy Pay, starting today. During the pandemic, there was a pause on water shutoffs, which has expired, leaving many residents in a difficult situation trying to catch up on their bills.
What is Detroit’s New Easy Pay Program?
Easy Pay allows residents to spread their total water and sewage debt over 36 months, with just $10 down for the first month. Previously, the debt had to be paid off within 12 months, making this a much more manageable option for many.
Who Qualifies for Detroit’s New Easy Pay Program?
The program is open to all customers, including businesses, residents, places of worship, and nonprofits. There are no income restrictions to qualify, and if you enroll, you’ll automatically be placed into a shutoff protection program. This is in addition to current monthly bills.
How to Enroll in Detroit’s New Easy Pay Program
The city expects over 30,000 people to sign up for the program. You can call the city’s hotline or visit their website to enroll. We’ve also put the link up in Shannon’s Scoop. This is a great opportunity for anyone in need, so take advantage of it if you qualify.
