Why Are There Two Monday Night Football Games in Week 14?

Can you believe the 2023-24 NFL season only has five weeks left? I’m always so sad when the football fun is over. Anyway, as each weekend approaches during the NFL season, I always look ahead to what “Monday Night Football” is on the schedule. This weekend, there are actually two “Monday Night Football” games. Say what?

Yes, there are two simultaneous games on Monday night (Dec. 11) at 8:15 p.m.. One game is with the Green Bay Packers on the road against the New York Giants on ABC (and streaming on the ESPN+ app). The other game sees the Miami Dolphins against the Tennessee Titans in Miami on ESPN. As for on-air talent, the regular “Monday Night Football” broadcast crew of Joe Buck, Troy Aikman and Lisa Salters will be in New Jersey, while the other broadcast will get Chris Fowler, Louis Riddick, Dan Orlovsky and Laura Rutledge in Miami.

Here’s why there are two Monday Night Football games

So, why are there two Monday Night Football games in Week 14? Well, the NFL is trying to “transform a Sunday afternoon environment into a primetime window,” according to a press release from ESPN. So, this adds to the excitement. This is the first time the NFL has ever aired two games at the very same start time on “Monday Night Football.”

The NFL is ruling this season, as they’ve had record-breaking viewership numbers. In fact, Week 13’s “Sunday Night Football” game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers was NBC & Peacock’s most-watched NBC SNF game ever, according to an NBC press release. It was also the fifth game on NBC Sports garner at least 25 million viewers, which is the most amount of NFL games to reach that number by Week 13 since 2015. Numbers for the Thanksgiving football schedule were also high. The good news about this “Monday Night Football” option is that it gives something for both AFC and NFC fans to watch. I hate to make that a reason to have him named one of the best personalities in the NFL, but heck, even without the Taylor factor, Kelce has a huge personality that people love.

  • Dan Campbell

    All eyes are on Dan Campbell this season, as the Lions all pulling off some incredible things. That’s not common for the Detroit Lions, either. But, Campbell has some of the wackiest ideas and quotes, and that makes him loveable. Remember that time he wanted a pet Lion at practices? I love this dude.

  • Bill Belichick

    Bill Belichick needs no introduction, but we’ll introduce him anyway. He’s the former head coach and general manager of the New England Patriots. He’s had some rough years as of late, but nothing can take away his glimmering record. Belichick just tells it like it is. He’s incredible with strategies, and that really stands out with his coaching.

  • Jalen Hurts

    Jalen Hurts, the star quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, is something of a hero on the field. But, off the field, he’s known for his deep, insightful comments that show he has wisdom beyond his years. He’s a major contender and personality.
