Metro Detroit Theater Permanently Closed
A Metro Detroit staple, The Maple Theater in Bloomfield Hills, permanently closed on Monday. The lease expired and after months of deliberations, they had to close. They said it was in part due to not being able to reestablish the pre-pandemic numbers, but let’s be honest. The rise of streaming services where you can just get a movie while it’s out in theaters is totally affecting them. Especially these independent theaters and art houses.
They have a membership program, the Maples Elite Memberships, and they’ve partnered with Emagine Theaters so anyone who is currently enrolled in that program can receive a complimentary one year Emagine Extras Membership. Plus, Maple gift cards can be redeemed at Emagine for gift cards at its Birmingham 8 location. It’s a shame to see it go.
Timbaland Admits to Past Drug Addiction
I came across this IG post yesterday. Timbaland sat down on a podcast and he revealed that he struggled with a past drug addiction. He said he quit after having an out of body experience where he saw himself dead. I’m happy to see more artists coming out and speaking on this. Whether you know it or not, you probably do have someone in your life that has this type of addiction. I don’t want to get into the weeds too much about it, but I think there’s someone in everybody’s life that probably has gone through something like this.
So, I’m happy to see them speaking out. You have other artists like Jelly Roll going in front of Congress, asking for help with fentanyl, and things like that. I’m glad they’re using their platform to bring awareness. If you think about it, if you’re going through something like this and you hear Timbaland of all people tell you that he had the same issue and he was able to get through it, it kind of gives you hope. Here’s the clip of Tim talking about his struggles and how he made it through… https://youtube.com/shorts/oj1K2URzhwE?si=223DaqVSJNhzx3PD
Details on Killer Mike’s Arrest at Grammys
I told you yesterday about how Killer Mike won three Grammy awards and then was arrested after. Well, apparently it’s because he allegedly injured a female security guard.
I guess she stopped him backstage after his wins and she asked for his tickets and directed him to a security checkpoint, but he allegedly refused and tried to make his way around her. She reportedly ran around and got in front of him again. So, he allegedly pushed her to the ground causing injury to her hand and fingers, She then called for help from her fellow security guards and she signed a citizen’s arrest for misdemeanor battery.
I get that he shouldn’t have pushed her. He should have handled it better. But at the same time, are you not paying attention to what’s happening? Do you not notice that this man’s got three Grammys in his hand?
Killer Mike was arrested and transported for booking, and then he was released on his own recognizance. He does have a court appearance on the 29th of this month.
