Juvenile Remixes ‘Back That Azz Up’ For Pro-Vaccine Anthem
Juvenile brought us back with the catchy tune and lyrics to his 1999 hit, “Back That Azz Up” and has reworked the lyrics changing it to “Vax That Thing Up” to encourage people to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The rapper partnered with the dating app, BLK (one of the largest dating apps for Black singles) for this new pro-vaccine campaign.
The New Orleans native featured Mannie Fresh from Cash Money Records who was a part of the original song and No Limit’s Mia X on the new remix.
Keeping with the original flow of the hook Juvenile raps, “Girl you look good once you vax that thang up,” and doesn’t leave out the fellas either, “You a handsome young brother once you vax that thang up// Dating in real life, you need to vax that thang up//Feeling freaky all night, you need to vax that thang up.”
The music video pays homage to the late ’90s/early ’00s era while promoting young Black singles to get vaccinated before going on dates.
“We have a direct line to the audience that needs to internalize this message,” said Jonathan Kirkland, BLK head of brand and marketing,in a statement per Adweek. “The song may be playful and fun, but the underlying message is as real as it gets.”
Juvenile added, “I just wanted to do something positive for my people and to stand in the front to show that I’m willing to sacrifice my life not just for me but also for my family, We don’t know what we’re facing right now but we really do all need to be vaccinated so we can continue to do our thing and survive.”
