When people are considering a place to retire, they often have a variety of factors in mind. While every person has their own personal preferences, here are some factors that people consider.
Cost of Living
A big factor that people consider when they retire is affordability. People want places where the cost of living is reasonable, including healthcare, utilities, housing, taxes, and transportation.
Climate
Everyone has their own preference when it comes to climate. Some like it hot and some like it cold. Retirees also have different physical activities that they participate in too, so climate is a big factor when it comes to that. I will personally be looking for somewhere that is the least affected by climate change. Somewhere that has the right climate to grow my own food and have access to clean water.
Community & Social Life
Communities that offer recreational facilities, social activities like bingo, and just a chance to connect with others is what retirees often look for. It’s such an important factor in aging to have a vibrant social life that leads to a fulfilling retirement.
Safety & Security
Low crime rates and secure communities are a huge factor to consider when retiring. People want to feel safe, not only for themselves, but also for their property.
Michigan Town
So which town in Michigan provides a safe and secure community, a reasonable cost of living? According to TheTravel, that city is Midland. The violent crime rate of 9.4 & property crime rate of 21 incidents is well below the national average of 22.7 and 35.4 respectively. The cost of living is $1,633.
And that is not all! There are plenty of places to visit and community activities to check out. There’s Dows Gardens, Midland City Forest Park, the Midland Center for the Arts, Midland Area Farmers Market, and more. Plus, they have a historic downtown area. This would be a huge plus for me as I love exploring nature and the arts.
