The Pistons are one of the most storied franchises in Detroit sports history. With three championships in the past 30 years, they are the second highest-achieving Detroit sports team in the modern era.
Despite some success though, since the dawn of social media Pistons fans have been consistently begging Pistons management for the return of a beloved, Pistons throwback: the teal uniforms with the black horse logo.
Per The Detroit News, The Pistons could go back to wearing these throwback uniforms in the 2022-2023 season.
The long delay is due to the NBA’s strict rules regarding throwback uniforms. The league only allows teams to release throwback uniforms, which it designates as “Hardwood Classics” once every five years, and only in honor of a historical milestone for the team.
Because the Pistons entered the league in 1941, the 2022 season represents the 80th anniversary of that milestone. This will be the team’s next opportunity to roll out a throwback uniform, and one current Piston is rallying for a return of the teal horse.
While the red, white, and blue uniforms and logo currently used by The Pistons are classics in their own right, there is something uniquely Detroit about the teal, orange, and black logo and uniforms.
