On the day it is scheduled to arrive, you are excited to receive a notification that your package has been delivered. But, when you finally get home, you arrive to an empty porch. You have been struck by a porch pirate, and your package has been stolen.
The number of Americans who deal with this problem may surprise you. A study from the New York Times has found that 1.7 million packages are stolen from American porches on a daily basis. The value of these packages is estimated to surpass $25 million.
This number marks a dramatic increase from 2018, when 1,546 thefts were documented for the entire year.
The holiday season is clearly a prime season for porch pirates. Americans shop online with retail items delivered right to their doors more than ever before. This provides a great deal of opportunity to porch pirates, and we suggest that you prepare.
