Meek Mill Compares ‘Squid Game’ to ‘Hood Poverty’
Netflix’s Squid Game is on track to becoming the company’s largest streamed tv show ever and with all the hype surrounded by the Korean drama, it has fans thinking of the parallels between the fictional show and real-life experiences.
Rapper Meek Mill is the latest to share his thoughts on the hit show and is comparing the societal inferences made in the Netflix drama to “hood poverty.”
The Expensive Pain rapper tweeted his theory to his 10.9 million followers Monday, “‘Squid games’ pay attention how fast people switch and kill eachother to survive …now think about the ‘hood’ poverty …it’s the exact same thing …if you just help them with work/money they won’t be that way ‘just a common sense message.'”

The North Philly native has always been vocal in his lyrics about political reform and sits as co-chair for the nonprofit organization REFORM Alliance which began shortly after the “unjust re-imprisonment” of the artist that sparked the international #FREEMEEK movement. Meek’s comparison of economic disparities in marginalized communities to the popular Netflix show has trolls calling him out on his “wokeness” but others are thankful for his insight.
Look how people are interpreting his message:
It takes more than work/money. Sorry @MeekMill, the hood proverty excuse needs to stop being the “go to.” reason we “understand” & “overlook” all this senseless killing.

In principle you’re right. But the squid game players (adults) willingly chose to return to survival mode fully aware of the consequences, the hood poverty “players” (kids) are born into survival mode not fully aware. Jobs and money are too simple a solution. #squidgames
