Kanye Countersues Ex-Business Partner, Claims Took Advantage During Kim Kardashian Divorce
Kanye West is reportedly countersuing his former business partner. The rapper claims he took advantage of him during his divorce from Kim Kardashian. Per legal documents obtained by TMZ, Ye claims the deal he made with Thomas St. John isn’t enforceable because he signed it without help from a lawyer when he was “sleep-deprived, stressed, anxious, and under duress.”
Ye says he met St. John around March 2022. They reportedly made a deal that would have John earning $300,000 a month. St. John claims he was hired as the rapper’s senior financial advisor and Chief Financial Officer. His position was reportedly created so that he could help Kanye amidst one of his many social media breakdowns.
In the documents, Ye does acknowledge that he met with St. John and that he signed the document. The rapper claims that he was under a great amount of stress dealing with his divorce from Kim Kardashian. He added that his lawyers were not present when he signed the deal.

The Donda rapper also says that the media and paparazzi were taking a toll on him. He claims it caused him to be “sleep deprivation, stress, and anxiousness.”
The Yeezy creator also complained about the clause that prevents St. John from being terminated for at least the first 18 months.
St. John claims that he received the first three payments from the rapper. However, Ye was reportedly “aggressive” towards St. John during a meeting at Nobu claiming that he no longer wanted to work with St. John anymore.
St. John says he brought up their arrangement and Ye allegedly responded, “The 18-month term was bulls—” and “You’re insane for even thinking I would stick to it.”
St. John is seeking $4.5M in damages. $900K is for the months he has not been paid and the other rest ($3.6M) is for the remainder of the contract. He’s also looking for punitive damages as well.
Ye’s countersue claim did not specify a dollar amount.
