Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff is #1
As a lifelong Detroit Lions fan, I never thought I’d see the day when we had a No. 1 quarterback in the NFL. But, that day has arrived. I’m smiling super big right now. Jared Goff is #1 in the new PFF highest-ranked quarterback tally. Here’s his history in the poll and why he’s No. 1.
The PFF just released its latest rankings for best quarterbacks in the NFL, and topping the tally is Goff. This is quite a turn of events. Back in the spring, the PFF had him at No. 16. Moreover, right after the season ended earlier this year, the poll had him way down at No. 19. Good for him.
I’m personally thrilled to see Goff finally getting the respect he deserves. It’s a long time coming. I mean, he took the L.A. Rams to the Superbowl, and what did they do to thank him? Kick him off to Detroit. He’s a solid player and, I think, very underrated. I’m glad that he’s finally getting the chance to shine in Detroit. We’re happy to have him, and in the long run, the Stafford-Goff trade seems like a much bigger win for Detroit than L.A.
This season, Goff is winning. Goff is among the quarterbacks that have really overperformed in the NFL this season. The team is 4-1. I can’t remember in my lifetime a moment when we were 4-1. I’m sure it’s happened, but rarely. He and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson work really well together. I hope Johnson stays in Detroit for at least another season to work with Goff.
Jared Goff PFF Highest-Ranked Quarterback:
As mentioned, Goff is No. 1 on the Oct. 11 PFF ranking. If you’re curious about the others, also in the top five is Lamar Jackson at No. 2, Josh Allen at No. 3, Sam Howell at No. 4 and Jimmy Garoppolo at No. 5. Kirk Cousins, one of my other favorites, is outside the top 10 at No. 12. Who are the top teams in the NFL right now? Listen to my podcast below and subscribe here and here.
