Will Detroit Lions OC Ben Johnson Leave, and Where Would He Go?

Despite that messy loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday (Oct. 22), the Detroit Lions are still one of the hottest teams in the NFL. While Dan Campbell is at the helm, there’s another guy who’s getting lots of credit for the Lions’ rebuild, as well as Jared Goff’s stellar performance. That guy is Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. But, now, Johnson is a wanted man, in the best way. He’s the No. 1 guy teams are looking at who need a new head coach. So, will Ben Johnson leave at the end of the season? And, if he does, where might he go?

Johnson is a different kind of offensive coordinator, and that’s not lost on Amon-Ra St. Brown. “The way he’s explaining the plays, the way he’s detailed with how we’ve got to run these routes in the red zone, I just knew the way he was talking to us, it just felt different,” St. Brown said of Johnson via ESPN. “I told one of my teammates, I forgot who it was, I was like, ‘Bro, when Ben gets up there, he knows exactly what he’s talking about, he’s telling us what he sees in this play, what he wants us to do.”

Many NFL critics and experts think Johnson won’t be able to resist the offers that come his way at the end of this season. Benjamin Raven, a Detroit Lions beat writer for MLive, is on “The Squad with Anne Erickson.” On the show, he and Anne talk all about the big Ravens win and what it means for the Lions. He also talked about the possibility of Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson leaving for a head coach position soon. He thinks it’s happening.

As for the teams Johnson might land, Raven mentioned the Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots and Denver Broncos.     All eyes are on Dan Campbell this season, as the Lions all pulling off some incredible things. That’s not common for the Detroit Lions, either. But, Campbell has some of the wackiest ideas and quotes, and that makes him loveable. Remember that time he wanted a pet Lion at practices? I love this dude.

  • Bill Belichick

    Bill Belichick needs no introduction, but we’ll introduce him anyway. He’s the former head coach and general manager of the New England Patriots. He’s had some rough years as of late, but nothing can take away his glimmering record. Belichick just tells it like it is. He’s incredible with strategies, and that really stands out with his coaching.

    Jalen Hurts, the star quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, is something of a hero on the field. But, off the field, he’s known for his deep, insightful comments that show he has wisdom beyond his years. He’s a major contender and personality.
