Detroit Lions NFL Week 14 Rooting Guide: Who Should We Root For?
It’s that time of year when enough games have played out that other teams’ wins and losses can make the difference when it comes to our beloved team making it to the playoffs. So, when my friends and family ask me why I’m watching football all day and night on Sunday, not just the Detroit Lions, I can tell them that, no, I don’t have a football problem, and I’m actually doing it because all of the games matter. Okay, maybe I do have a football problem, but let’s keep that between us. So, who should Detroit Lions fans root for to win and lose in the upcoming games? Here’s your Detroit Lions NFL Week 14 rooting guide, looking at four key games.
Detroit Lions NFL Week 14 Rooting Guide
Las Vegas Raiders over Minnesota Vikings, 4:05 p.m. Sunday in Las Vegas, Nevada
While I’m usually a Vikings fan, I’m definitely rooting for them to fall to the Raiders this weekend. Every time the Vikings lose, the Lions get closer to snagging the NFC North. The Vikings started out strong, even after losing Kirk Cousins, but have fallen the past few weeks. Still, this game will have receiver Justin Jefferson back, which will help the Vikings. The Raiders are, well, the Raiders, though, so I’m not exactly expecting Las Vegas to pull off a win.
Seattle Seahawks over San Francisco 49ers, 4:05 p.m. Sunday in Santa Clara, California
San Francisco is hot, and they’re coming off that massive win against the Philadelphia Eagles last weekend. The 49ers have nothing to prove, but they did lose several games in a row earlier this season, so they need to keep winning. When you look at the 49ers’ recent wins, including over Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, Seattle and the aforementioned Philadelphia, they look tough to beat right now, plus they have Brock Purdy. Even so, I’m backing the Seahawks 100%, and you should, too, if you’re a Lions fan. I mean, how great would it be for the Lions to not have to play the 49ers on the road in the second round of the playoffs?
Dallas Cowboys over Philadelphia Eagles, Game details: 8:20 p.m. Sunday in Arlington, Texas
This is a tough one. I’m a big Jalen Hurts fan, but I’m loyal to the Lions above anyone else. If the Cowboys win this weekend, Dallas and Philadelphia would be tied at the top of the NFC East. While the Lions don’t really care which team wins the NFC East, if the Eagles lose this game, it would result in a four-way tie at the top of the NFC standings. Go Lions!
New York Giants over Green Bay Packers, 8:15 p.m. Monday in East Rutherford, New Jersey
This is an obvious one. Always root against the Packers! Okay, maybe that’s a bit harsh. But, the Packers (and Vikings) are three games behind the Lions in the NFC North, so if they lose, that will certainly help the Lions. Well, I didn’t start off great that’s for sure. I feel like this looks more like an Angry Bird than the Cardinals logo. At least it’s the right animal?

I don’t think this one is terrible! I got the overall shape down correctly. That signature little V shape is important and it’s there. I feel like any NFL fan should know that this is the Falcons logo.
Baltimore Ravens

Yeah…not great. Looks more like a Dodo bird, or something. It definitely doesn’t look as intimidating as their real logo. I own that. The “B” should be a giveaway, though.
Buffalo Bills

I’m not going to lie…I think I nailed this one. It’s clearly a Buffalo. Right? That random line is coming out of it for some reason, just like the real logo! Nailed it.
Carolina Panthers

Look…what else do you want? Clearly that’s a Panther. I suppose it could be a Jaguar, but NFL fans should be able to recognize that profile. I hope…
Chicago Bears

If you watched the video above…it looks like I got this one wrong myself during the game. I said it was the Panthers…which it could easily be! However, it’s not. It’s the Chicago Bears. I told you I can’t draw!!
Cincinnati Bengals

Finally, an easy one. Clearly, this is the logo of the Cincinnati Bengals. It’s a dead giveaway. Even with me drawing it. Now, that’s saying something.
Cleveland Browns

People I talked to had a hard time with this one. Kind of surprised me because it’s the most basic boring logo in the entire NFL. It’s a helmet! That’s it. Looking at it, I think you can see a helmet. Or maybe a hat. Regardless, it’s headwear and no other NFL team has that in their logo. Has to be the Browns!
Dallas Cowboys

You know…looking at this it really hits me that I cannot draw. The other logos are tough, and I feel like it should be understandable that I can’t draw them. However, this is simply a star and I still couldn’t pull it off. Pretty pathetic.
Denver Broncos

Detroit Lions

This is a bummer. Somehow, my home town team ended up being the worst drawing of them all. How does that happen? It’s the one I’m most familiar with! Looks like a dog with a perm.
Green Bay Packers

Simplicity at its finest. Surely you know this is the logo for the Green Bay Packers. It was nice to have an easy one thrown in. Although, I admit it’s still not great especially for how basic it is.

That could be one of my better drawings. Look, it’s not my fault that the Jaguars and the Panthers have similar logos. I’m just doing my best over here. Never mind me. You see it, right? A noticeable difference between this and the Panthers.

Yeah, this is kind of cheating but…it’s the logo! I didn’t choose for it to have “KC” in it. It just worked out that way. Luckily for me…there are a couple more coming where this happened too.

Ugh. I can’t even draw a lightning bolt?! That’s a major let down. I don’t know where the edges are supposed to go! It looks like a bolt to me. It shouldn’t be hard to tell that this is the LA Chargers, even if it is a bad drawing.

Again, not the best drawing ever but I think it comes close. What else do you want out of me? I got the basic dolphin shape and that sun outline. That’s pretty much all there is to it.

I’m not going to lie…I thought this could be one of my best. Then I realized that “my best” probably isn’t saying much. I get it. Someone said it looked like a chicken with a helmet and now that’s all I can see.
New England Patriots

Eh. Not terrible! I think I have a problem making these mascots and logos smile instead of looking serious. I’ll work on that the next time around. I don’t think this is awful, though.

Even though it’s a horrible drawing, it’s still obvious what team this is. I will say that it’s a pretty difficult shape to draw from memory. Mine may be a little chubby or inflated instead of edgy, but it works. Get off my back, man!

I think my effort here was pretty low but what do you expect? It’s two letters. That’s the entire logo. I didn’t design it, I just drew it. Don’t blame me.

Philadelphia Eagles

Woah! Not bad! Finally, I was able to make the mascot look a little more mean and intimidating. Thank goodness I came close to getting the Eagles correctly because I know how Philly sports fans can be. I do not want any of that smoke.

Simplicity is key. Notice the attention to detail with the letters overlapping. I did this myself. Might have to hang this one on the fridge.
