The Lions Will Beat the 49ers in the NFC Championship – Here’s Why
To say the Lions will beat the 49ers in the NFC Championship is a big statement. Of course, nobody really knows who will win yet. But, I feel strongly that we can, and will, pull off an upset. Joe Chapp of the “Detroit Lions News Podcast” also feels this way. He’s my guest this week on “The Squad with Anne Erickson.” We have a great talk about why the Lions should beat the 49ers and also talked about lots more happening right now in the NFL. Buckle up for the latest episode, because it’s a wild ride.
So, why are the Lions equipped to beat the 49ers? It has to do with offense. Here are the specifics.
“The one thing I noticed about that game with San Francisco (again Green Bay Packers) was they don’t really like to stop the run,” Chapp says. “That plays so well into the Detroit Lions’ hands. (Packers running back) Aaron Jones had 136 yards on the ground. If you don’t think Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery are going to have more, you’re kind of fooling yourself. One of the major question marks for the 49ers when they traded for (defensive end) Chase Young was that Chase Young is kind of an undisciplined player in the run game. Now, he’s great against the pass rush. He can get to the quarterback as good as anyone. But, the run game is where he struggles the most…he kind of gets caught up the field, and if you have a guy like Jahmyr Gibbs, that’s everything and anything you need. If the guy goes up the field a little bit too early, you’re cutting and you’re making a little move and you have a crease for at least 5 to 6 yards. So, I think that’s something 49ers will have to nail home. But, Chase Young has always been that player, so you really can’t teach that out of him.”
So, does Chapp think the Lions will pull off an upset? “I do think they’re going to pull off the upset,” he says. I agree. There are more reasons why we think the Lions will win, and we talk about them all in the podcast below. Contact me with your thoughts here.
