Willow Smith Speaks Out About Will Smith’s Oscar Slap

Willow Smith is speaking out about her father Will Smith’s infamous Oscar slap with Chris Rock. The 21-year-old singer says the media firestorm had no effect on her creativity. She also noted that it didn’t “rock me as much as my own internal demons.”
In an interview with Billboard published Friday (August 5), Willow said, “I see my whole family as being human, and I love and accept them for all their humanness. Because of the position that we’re in, our humanness sometimes isn’t accepted, and we’re expected to act in a way that isn’t conducive to a healthy human life and isn’t conducive to being honest.”
As we earlier reported, the King Richard star broke his silence on the March awards ceremony when he slapped Chris Rock after the comedian made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head as he presented the Academy Award for best documentary; Pinkett Smith suffers hair loss due to the autoimmune condition alopecia.
In a video posted to YouTube, Will addressed why he didn’t apologize to Rock during his acceptance speech for his role in King Richard saying, “I was fogged out by that point. It’s all fuzzy. I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk, and when he is he will reach out. So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”
Willow is releasing her second EP Coping Mechanism on September 23. In 2019, she released a self-titled psychedelic R&B album, followed six months later by THE ANXIETY. A year later and Willow released her first pop-punk album, lately I feel EVERYTHING, which featured Blink-182’s Travis Barker on multiple tracks.

Jada Pinkett Smith has addressed the infamous slap from this year’s Oscars for the first time and Twitter, as always, is filled with opinions on the ordeal.
Jada opened the latest episode of her Facebook Watch show Red Table Talk saying, “This is a really important Red Table Talk on alopecia. Considering what I’ve been through with my own health and what happened at the Oscars, thousands have reached out to me with their stories. I’m using this moment to give our alopecia family an opportunity to talk about what it’s like to have this condition, and to inform people about what alopecia actually is.”
The actress then addressed the night of the Oscars: “My deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out, and reconcile. The state of the world today… we need them both and we all actually need one another more than ever. Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and that’s to keep figuring out this thing called life together. Thank you for listening.”
