Doja Cat Reveals Why Details About Her New Album Are Top Secret
Doja Cat has been keeping her fans on their toes by dropping hints about her upcoming fourth studio album. After teasing that the album genre would be “predominantly rap,” then inspired by 90s German rave music, and later trolling fans that it would only be R&B, there is no way of knowing what is next to come with Doja and she wants to keep it that way.
“I don’t know, man. I cannot say,” the “Kiss Me More” singer told PEOPLE. “I’m not gonna tell you! I’m not gonna tell anybody anything. I don’t care how much people beg and plead,” she explained.
The rapper added: “I was going off on tangents on Twitter because I thought it would be funny. Also, I was half joking. Or fully. I mean, I don’t know. That’s for everybody else to predict.”
When asked, “what is the sound of [her] next album not going to be?” She laughed and replied, “What’s it not going to be?”
Although she did not give more of an insight on what genre her next project will be, the rapper did share what reaction she wishes to receive from fans after listening to her upcoming LP.
“I want my fans to feel like they can—it’s cliché, but I want them to feel like they can do whatever makes them happy,” Doja said. “I want them to express themselves the way that they want to. I want them to never be afraid to take a risk when it comes to music or fashion or, you know, being creative. That’s just like everybody’s message in a way, but I really do believe that I want my fans to feel that way.”
Last month, Doja spoke to CR Fashion Book about the brainstorming processes for her next LP, “We just have so many ideas and making those ideas consistent is the challenge right now. I can’t really tell much. I just know there’s a lot going on.”
This forthcoming project will follow her Grammy-winning 2021 album Planet Her where she won her first Grammy for her collab with SZA on “Kiss Me More.”
