Halle Berry and Angelina Jolie’s ‘Rocky Start’ in ‘Maude v Maude’
Halle Berry is getting candid about her “rocky start” with Angelina Jolie, whom she is co-starring and co-producing a film with. In a new interview with Variety, Berry opens up about the upcoming spy-thriller Maude v Maude. The movie is described as Mr. & Mrs. Smith meets Mission: Impossible with a comedic twist.
Berry said she’s looking forward to taking on Jolie “physically and intellectually” in the film. However, she admits that their initial interactions weren’t good. The Oscar winner shares that their rocky start will serve both of them well in their screen time together. Though the Catwoman star wouldn’t reveal specifics about their bumpy beginning, she teases that fans will have to wait to hear that story. She adds, it’s a “good one.” They’ve since moved past whatever drama Berry alludes to in her Wednesday (December 6) interview. “We’ve been talking a lot about divorces and exes,” she adds. “We bonded, let’s say that.”
Jolie has been married three times: Jonny Lee Miller from 1996 to 2000, Billy Bob Thornton from 2000 to 2003, and Brad Pitt from 2014 to 2019. She shares six children with Pitt, and the two have gone through a lengthy, messy split and subsequent divorce over the past seven years over custody and estates. Berry has also been married three times: David Justice from 1993 to 1997, Eric Benét from 2001 to 2005, then Olivier Martinez from 2013 to 2016, with whom she shares son Maceo-Robert with. She is also mom to daughter Nahla with ex Gabriel Aubry.
Berry says in the new interview that she’s “thrilled” to work with the “formidable” Jolie and “craft a story with our sensibility and from our point of view.” As we recently reported, Jolie is planning her exit from Hollywood after her legal battle with Pitt is resolved. Until then, she is signed on to star in a third installment of Maleficent, a Maria Callas biopic, Kung Fu Panda 4, and directing Without Blood starring Salma Hayek.
