According to Fox 2 Detroit’s Tim Skubick, Governor Whitmer is expected to make an announcement regarding gyms reopening next week in the state. Gyms have been closed for nearly six months due to the pandemic.

The governor is expected to make the formal announcement next week, barring a dramatic change in cases, Skubick reports.

Gyms first closed in mid-March when all non-essential businesses were forced to close. Since then, many other businesses have reopened as we continue to battle COVID-19.

Many have begged the Governor to reopen gyms, but because heavy breathing and perspiration can cause the virus to spread, Whitmer has held off on allowing them to reopen.

Whitmer has already said that she won’t be pressured or bullied into making her decision.

There have been over 100,000 cases in Michigan since mid-March with over 6,000 deaths linked to the virus.

The governor’s office has not issued a statement regarding a press conference next week or an announcement on gyms reopening.
