Pope Francis Center Providing Housing to Unsheltered in Detroit
The Pope Francis Center has launched a groundbreaking initiative aimed at addressing chronic homelessness in Detroit. This new venture, known as the Bridge Housing Campus, promises a comprehensive approach to helping those unsheltered in Detroit transition to permanent housing.
Help the Unsheltered in Detroit Will Receive
Located in Detroit’s core city neighborhood, the $40 million facility is designed to house individuals for 90 to 120 days. During their stay, residents will receive intensive services including medical care, psychological support, addiction treatment, social services, and job readiness training. This holistic approach aims to equip individuals with the skills and support necessary for a stable transition to affordable housing.
Facility Details
The campus features things like fully furnished studio apartments, a gymnasium, a commercial kitchen, and free medical and dental clinics. For those not yet ready to enter the program, the campus also includes an outdoor shelter area with heating features, providing a safe space to bridge the gap towards permanent housing. The facility is set to welcome its first group of residents in late June, marking a significant step forward in Detroit’s efforts to support its most vulnerable citizens.
Location of The Pope Francis Center
Bridge Housing Campus is in Detroit’s Core City neighborhood on 5.3 acres of land. It is still under construction, but is located at 2915 West Hancock Street, Detroit. You can also visit The Pope Francis Center at 438 Saint Antoine Street, Detroit, next to St. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church.
